Inchie Ornaments Finished!

The Road to Publication: Final Layout

The final layout proofs of Inchie Quilts arrived, were proofread, and were returned back in April, but I was just too buried under the task of actually proofreading them (in addition to a ton of other stuff right then and since then) to post about it. But let me tell you how cool it is to see everything come together and look like a real book, and look even better than you imagined it could!

When the layout proofs arrived here, everything stopped so I could sit down and look through the pages. The layout proofs are in color, and look pretty close to what the finished book will look like minus the binding and cover. From the first page I was just so pleased with the layout and the details. The extra graphical elements like ruler scales on the page edges that the design team added were just perfect. The quilt photography and reproduction was beautifully done; there are closeups of individual Inchies so you can really see the embellishments and the dimensional details.

I just can’t wait for you to see the finished product, and well, I can’t wait to see it myself! Word is that it may be back from the printer and in stock at AQS any time now (which is earlier than expected!), so hopefully, I won’t have long to wait!

Inchie Quilts Published!

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! Inchie Quilts has been released by American Quilter’s Society on May 29, 2009, more than a month ahead of the anticipated release date. I’m just so pleased with the book, and I know you will be too! The quilt photography is just wonderful, and you’ll be able to see the Inchies up close right down to the tiniest details. The book is full color throughout, including the construction diagrams.

You can visit the Downloads page here at InchieQuilts.com to peek inside the book, or click the image at right. You’ll see actual sample pages from the book, including the Table of Contents which will give you a really good idea of what you’ll find in Inchie Quilts. On the downloads page you’ll also find bonus files for some of the projects in Inchie Quilts that can be printed out to make it easier to trace quilting patterns and the like.

When Edge Stitching Suddenly Goes Wrong

Now that you’ve made a few Inchies (or maybe more than a few!), you’ve gotten the hang of the edge stitching and things are going along just swell, what happens when all of a sudden the edge stitching is just all wrong? You’ve checked all your machine settings (you did make a note of those when you figured them out the first time, right? ) and everything looks right, but the edge stitching on your current Inchies doesn’t look as good as some of the ones you’ve done before. Inchie Quilts Workshops Scheduled

If you’re ready for an Inchie Quilts workshop, the time has come! I’ll be teaching workshops and lecturing about Inchies at the AQS Quilt Expo Des Moines, October 28-31 at the Iowa Events Center in downtown Des Moines. Learn to make Colorwash Inchies in the Where the Inchies Are workshop, or choose the Inchie Mini Quilt and make 12 or 16 Inchies for a small quilt.
